Choosing Romanian TV in the UK: a 7-point checklist
What to check before paying for Romanian TV in the UK: devices, free trial, renewal terms, support, catch-up, home broadband and the time difference.
In this guide
If you live in the UK and want to watch Romanian TV over the internet, don't sign up on the strength of an advert alone. Before you pay, check seven things: which devices the service runs on, whether you can try it free, how renewal and cancellation work, whether support speaks Romanian, how the catch-up archive works, whether your home broadband is up to it, and how the time difference affects live shows. That last one catches people out: the UK is 2 hours behind Romania all year round.
Below we go through each point, the questions worth asking, and how Vox Max answers them, so you can compare on fair terms.
1. Which devices does it work on?
Start with what's already in your living room. A great service is no use if it won't run on your TV.
- Find your TV's operating system under Settings > About (or Support).
- Ask whether there's a proper TV app, not just a phone app.
- Ask what they recommend if your TV isn't supported.
With Vox Max: the app runs on Android TV and Google TV. We recommend the Nvidia Shield, Xiaomi Mi Box / Mi TV Box or Google TV Streamer 4K. A native Samsung and LG app is being worked on; until then, an Android TV box over HDMI does the job.
2. Can you try before you pay?
A free trial shows you how the service performs on your TV and your broadband, not in a showroom.
- How long is the trial and what does it include?
- Does it roll into a paid plan automatically?
With Vox Max: there's a free 24-hour trial. Our guide to making the most of the 24-hour trial covers what to test.
3. Auto-renewal and cancellation
Plenty of subscriptions renew automatically. That's fine, as long as the rules are clear.
- Does it auto-renew, and can you switch that off yourself?
- What's the deadline for switching it off?
- What happens to the time you've already paid for?
With Vox Max: plans renew automatically by default. You can turn off auto-renewal in your account at least one day before the renewal date, and your subscription then ends at the end of the paid period.
4. Support in Romanian
When something goes wrong on a weeknight, just before a programme you've been waiting for, you'll want to explain it in your own language.
- Which support channels exist: email, chat, messaging apps?
- Can you get help in Romanian?
With Vox Max: reach us on Telegram at @vox_max_com or by email at [email protected].
5. Catch-up: can you rewatch what you missed?
Catch-up matters a lot abroad, where your working hours rarely line up with Romanian broadcast times.
- How many days back can you go?
- Is everything available, or only some programmes?
With Vox Max: the archive goes back up to 7 days. Availability can vary by programme and channel, so check the shows you care about during the trial.
6. Your home broadband
Internet TV depends on your connection. A few quick checks:
- Is the TV or box far from your router? Weak Wi-Fi is the most common cause of pausing.
- Could you run an Ethernet cable, or use powerline adapters?
- How does your connection cope in the evening, when it's busiest?
With Vox Max: we recommend a wired (Ethernet) connection for the most stable picture.
7. The time difference with Romania
The UK is 2 hours behind Romania all year, because both countries change their clocks on the same dates. A show that starts at 8pm in Romania starts at 6pm in the UK, often while you're still on your way home.
- Check that the programme guide shows times you can make sense of.
- Use catch-up to watch on your own schedule.
